Macau Science Centre

Location: Macau S.A.R., China

Tourist destination

The newly built Macau Science Centre opened its doors in December 2009. NorthernLight has won the design contest for the design of three galleries for this prestigious project. The building was designed by I.M. Pei and is located on reclaimed land in the South China Sea. Macau is one of the two special administrative regions of the People’s Republic of China. Welcoming about 20 million visitors annually, it is an important tourist attraction in South East Asia.

Environment and ecology

Each gallery NorthernLight designs, concentrates on one of the following three topics: The power of the Earth (earthquakes, tsunami’s, volcanoes, etc), The power of the Sky (tornadoes, thunderstorms, rip currents, etc) and Ecology (environmental protection). The galleries have a clear focus on what people could do in order to protect themselves and their environment against disasters, either global or ecological. The design will be dramatic and sensational, the exhibits challenging and interactive. The exhibit challenges visitors to lean against the wind in a Beaufort tunnel, learn in a Faraday cage about lightning and fly above a green, clean Macau by gesture recognized technique.
