Location: Travelling exhibition, Europe
Experience fascinating Roman technologies
In exploring High Tech Romans, visitors can experience the fascinating Roman technologies first hand, see how inventive they were and be inspired. This stylish exhibition features 32 interactive exhibits and 20 showcases full of archaeological finds from the northern part of the Roman Empire. High Tech Romans is a co-production between the Museum Het Valkhof in Holland, the LVR-Landesmuseum in Germany, the Museon in Holland and Technopolis in Belgium.
In our modern society we face many challenges. Technological innovations can be the answer to many of these challenges. Technological innovations have been happening throughout the world, throughout the ages. All these innovations share the foundation of inspiration from previous times and cultures. In this exhibition the focus is on technology from Roman times. The Romans brought us more innovative technologies than any other culture and at the same time the Romans were clearly inspired by previous times and cultures, such as the Egyptians, the Etruscans and the Greeks.
The Romans remixed the past. Today we also need to understand and remix the past inorder to create the future!
The modern design of the exhibition integrates this story of inspiration. This does not mean the design copies a roman building, but that it has been inspired by their techniques, detailing, organization skills and art. Nine themes, including archetecture, water use and machines, run throughout the exhibition. These themes combine exhibits with real authentic objects! Next to this, information about today’s solutions connect Roman times to today.
